In her early twenties Handler moved into Los Angeles in order to explore acting. Handler started performing to earn income. Handler's ability to write stories came into play at twenty-one. Handler then decided to devote her full-time career to stand up comedy. Handler's stand-up career began when she was part of an all-female Oxygen television cast on the reality show with a hidden camera and practical humor series Girls Behaving Unstably. From 2002 to 2005, the show aired. The host began to appear on different shows such including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler also began working as an associate on The Tonight Show. Handler made her breakthrough in 2006 when she began running her own talk show for E! Named The Chelsea Handler show. The Chelsea Handler show ran for two years. Handler continued her stand-up career by performing on Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour and which was a tour in the United States. Her stand-up performances have been aired on VH1, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, and HBO. In 2010, she hosted the MTV Video Music Awards 2010 were revealed. This made her the second woman in history to host the VMA's following Roseanne Barr.
